It is the week of September 21, 2016. My subject has not colored her hair for over a year, and stopped using hot curling irons for over a month until we could pinpoint what was causing her dry brittle hair. In my last article, I stated that dry brittle hair may be caused by the following reasons:

1. Shampoo and Conditioner:
Avoid products that use the following chemicals below in the ingredients. Over time, these chemicals can be harsh on your hair, and cause build up. My subject was using shampoos and conditioners with these chemicals in them because they are less expensive the salon brands. TJ Maxx and other merchants like them carry salon brand shampoos and conditioners at discounted prices.

2. Proper nutrition:
Eating balanced meals along with the proper amount of supplements needed daily will help your hair, skin, and nails look healthy. Too much sugar and processed foods may cause skin to become dry and the hair and nails to become brittle. I have noticed that when I eat proper, my hair and skin looks healthier than when I eat processed foods. I also found that I have more energy when I stick to eating clean.

3. Blow dryers and Hot Curling Irons:
If not used properly, these products may burn the hair, causing it to become dry and brittle. I recently learned that the temperature should not be used over 350° on the flat iron. My subject was using a flat hot iron with the temperature at 400°.

In conclusion, since she has been eating clean, using a quality shampoo and conditioner, and staying away from hot curling irons, her hair is shiny and soft again. She will continue to do the steps I provided in the previous post until she feels comfortable enough to professionally color her hair and only use the hot curling iron at a degree no higher than 350°, on occasion.
